Khela Hobe Scheme

The State Government of West Bengal has launched the Khela Hobe Scheme to provide employment opportunities. This is in response to the central government’s suspension of funding for the existing program, MGNREGS. Bengal had been ensuring that job card holders had 26 workdays, but now it will increase to 30 workdays.

The Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee has announced the Khela Hobe Scheme to help people find jobs in the state. The central government stopped funding for a 100-day job program in January 2022, causing employment problems for many citizens. To solve this, Mamta Banerjee started this new scheme to provide employment benefits and support to the people.

Decline in Bengal’s 100-Day Labor Plan Raises Concerns

At its peak, 2.6 crore people participated in the 100-day labour plan under NREGS in Bengal. Now, that number has dropped to 1.4 crore. These employees, who make up 8% of Scheduled Tribes and 28.5% of Scheduled Castes, play a vital role in Bengal’s rural economy. Despite Bengal’s strong performance, the BJP-led central government has stopped funding the 100 initiative.

Bengal Faces Funding Crisis as BJP Halts Support

She also blamed BJP leaders in Bengal for blocking money and acting jealous of the state’s progress.

Khela Hobe Scheme Lacks Funds, Implementation Challenging
