Objectives Of Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana
The primary objective of launching the Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana is to provide pukka houses to the residents of Sikkim state living in the rural areas in Kutcha houses who don’t have proper access to the basic amenities of their houses. With the help of this scheme, the applicants will be able to upgrade their standards of living and will also be able to tackle inhuman conditions.
Another objective of launching the Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana is to provide a roof over the heads of the economically weaker sections of the state so that they are confined to the inhospitable conditions of their living. This scheme will act as a ray of hope for people who have been living in unsanitary and unsafe conditions and will help them to build a bright future for themselves and their families.
It is only based on beneficiary category that the applicants will be able to carry out an online registration being offered to them for applying. The applicants must be living in the kutcha houses belonging to the BPL communities holding the domicile of Sikkim state possessing eligibility criteria.
Annual Income Limit
The student’s annual income limit will be taken into consideration at the time of making a selection of the applicant. The annual income limit must exceed the specified or mentioned income limit value. The applicants will need to make sure the annual income limit from all earning sources must be Rs. 6 Lakhs and if it exceeds then they will not be given any selection as well as registration.
Provisions Of Housing for Badang Kamarey District
The government has given 8 keys to new houses built in the Badang Kamarey area, as part of the plan to build 3050 houses by March 2022. 13 out of 16 houses in the Sikkim Garib awas area have been finished, and 100 houses have been designated in 32 different places, with a total of 2100 completed. Some delays have been caused by challenging terrain, but the government is trying to finish the project quickly.
Some of the criteria that have been included are as follows:-
- It should cover all statutory towns from the 2011 census.
- The house should be in the female head’s name or a joint name with the male head/wife.
- If no adult female member, the male head can be listed.
- Female head inclusion verified through valid registered titles/ownership documents.
Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana Selection Procedure
For the selection of eligible beneficiaries, A state-level approval and monitoring committee will be formed that will be responsible for the preparation of the beneficiary list. In case of acquiring help for the list, the Member secretary can co-opt any officer from his or her office. Then the beneficiary list will be sent to the special secretary, UDD, and joint secretary, UDD for seeking approval. A district-level monitoring committee will be formed to monitor the work.

All-Weather Houses With Land Ownership
The government will build a weather-resistant house on privately owned, unencumbered municipal land through a transparent bidding process. Provision of Weather Resistant Homes
The government will build a weather-resistant home for the designated beneficiary via a transparent bidding process for applicants holding SSC/COI/RC and being registered voters in the specified municipal area. The flats will conform to predetermined designs and standards, with no alterations allowed without government approval. Beneficiaries will receive long-term leases per current laws but cannot rent or sell to third parties. They may only pass on their flats to legal heirs.
The implementation of SGAY has been successful, with a high number of beneficiaries registered under the scheme. A total of 9,707 beneficiaries have been covered under the scheme, and an additional 1,068 beneficiaries have been provided with the first installment of funds. With the help of these statistics, the achievement of this scheme can be evaluated.
Amount of Incentive For House Construction
The amounts that will be provided or offered to the applicants for the construction of a new house will be as per the guidelines of the government, an amount of Rs. 1,30,000/- will be offered to the applicants for housing, and Rs. 40,000/- will be given for the basic amenities that will be covered while construction.
