  • Udan Phase 1
  • Udan Phase 2
  • Udan Phase 3
  • Udan Phase 4
  • Udan Phase 5

Overview Of UDAN Scheme Phases

The overview of each phases in this scheme are as follows:-

Phase Description
UDAN 1.0In this phase, 5 airline companies were given permission to operate on 128 flight routes that connect to 70 airports. These airports include 36 that were recently built and are now operational.
UDAN 2.0
In 2018, the Ministry of Civil Aviation identified 73 airports in remote areas that received very little or no air service. These airports were classified as “underserved” or “unserved.” Additionally, as part of the second phase of the UDAN scheme, helipads were also included in the plan to improve connectivity in these areas.
UDAN 3.0
The government is planning to include tourism routes as part of UDAN 3, a scheme to make regional air travel affordable. This will be done in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism. Additionally, seaplanes will be used to connect water aerodromes for better connectivity. Furthermore, several routes in the North-East Region will be brought under the UDAN scheme.
UDAN 4.0The Airports Authority of India (AAI) gives more importance to airports that they have already built when awarding Viability Gap Funding (VGF). This means that airports that have already been developed by AAI have a higher chance of receiving financial support. Additionally, under UDAN 4, the scheme now also includes the operation of helicopters and seaplanes. This means that funding and support will also be provided for the operation of these types of aircraft in the scheme.
UDAN 5.1The government of India has started a program called UDAN 5.1. Its main goal is to make travel easier in faraway places of the country by using helicopters. This will have a positive impact on tourism and the local economy.

Affordable Air Travel

The UDAN Scheme, launched by the Government of India, has revolutionized air travel by making it accessible and affordable for the common man. This scheme aims to connect unserved and underserved airports with major cities, ensuring that air travel is no longer a luxury reserved for a few but a convenient option for all.

Boost to Tourism

This scheme has opened up several remote and unexplored tourist destinations across the country by improving air connectivity. This has contributed significantly to the growth of the tourism industry, attracting both domestic and international tourists. This has not only generated ample employment opportunities for locals but also helped in preserving the cultural heritage of these regions.

UDAN Scheme Economic Development

The increased air connectivity has facilitated the movement of goods, spurring industrial growth and improving export opportunities. It has also led to the growth of ancillary services such as hotel and restaurant industry, transportation, and tour operators, contributing to the overall economic progress of the country. This has contributed some form of development in the field of economy of our India.

Time-Saving & Convenience

Travelers can now save significant time on their journeys. By opting for air travel, one can avoid long hours of commuting on congested roads and railways, especially in a country like India with vast distances between cities. The convenience of air travel enables people to reach their destinations quickly and efficiently, making it an attractive choice for both business and leisure travelers.

Reduced Dependence on Roads & Railways

By promoting air travel, the scheme has helped decrease the pressure on these transportation modes, leading to reduced traffic congestion, wear and tear of roads, and overcrowded trains. This diversion of passengers to air transport also reduces the strain on public transportation infrastructure, making it more sustainable in the long run.

UDAN Scheme Last Date

Applicants can apply for this scheme by submitting an online registration form. The specific last date for form submission has not been announced yet. Once the selection body releases the final date, we will provide an update on this article. It is advised to patiently await the release of the last date for registration.

Fare Structure & Booking Conditions

Under this scheme, airfare is capped at a maximum of INR 2,500 for a one-hour flight on selected routes. This fare structure ensures that a larger section of the population can now afford to fly and explore various parts of our vast country. Bookings can be made online through the official website or mobile applications of the respective airlines. The process is hassle-free, ensuring that more people can access air travel easily.

Comparison of Air Travel Fare with Taxi Fare per Kilometer

When we compare the fare structure of air travel under the UDAN Scheme with taxi fare per kilometer, the difference is significant. On one hand, air travel makes long-distance journeys possible within a short span of time, providing comfort and convenience. On the other hand, taxi fares can be expensive, especially for longer distances. Considering the time and cost involved, air travel becomes a wise choice for those who need to cover large distances.

Affordable Travel Scheme Expands, Aims for 1 Crore Annual Tickets

The scheme helped 60 lakh people travel cheaply. Small and medium city airports grew by 5%. 1000 new routes and 100 airports will be added. 10 water aerodromes and 28 heliports/seaplanes will be introduced. The scheme plans 10 airports for the Northeastern states. The goal is to offer 1 crore affordable tickets per year.
