The Chief Minister of WB has launched the West Bengal Student Credit Card Scheme so that the students will be able to apply for this credit card in order to avail of the benefits of loan amounts that will be awarded to them at a cheaper rate of interest. The students will need to pay the cheaper rates of interest at the time of returning the loan amounts along with the interest rates.
A loan amount of Rs. 10,00,000/- will be provided to the students in the form of loan amounts who have applied online for a West Bengal Student Credit Card Scheme and also have got their credit cards. Objectives of West Bengal Student Credit Card Scheme
The major objective of launching the West Bengal Student Credit Card Scheme is to provide loan amounts or assistance to students coming from economically backward classes so that they will be able to carry out higher studies after getting the loan amounts at a low rate of interest. A 4% rate of interest rate will be applicable on the borrowing loan amount that needs to pay by the student.
Another objective of launching the West Bengal Student Credit Card Scheme is to provide financial assistance to students for their academic expenses. The government aims to offer loans up to Rs. 10 lakhs, which can be used for domestic or international study. This initiative was part of the electoral platform presented by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Beneficiary Category
This scheme can only be undertaken by those students who have attained the limitation of beneficiary category for which this scheme has been launched. The students will need to make sure that they are the residents of West Bengal state and they have passed the class 12th from the government school wanting to undertake higher studies with the help of a loan.

Rate of Interest
The students will also be held responsible for paying the rate of interest that will be applied at the time of lending loan amounts to the students. A cheap rate of interest will be applicable to the loan amounts. The rate of interest that will be applied will be 4% on the loan amount that has been borrowed by the student.
Repayment Tenure
There will also be a repayment tenure that will need to be followed by the students that must be taken into consideration. The students will need to repay the amount of loan borrowed within paying the rate of interest applicable on it. One can repay the amount of loan and rate of interest within the timeline of 15 years.
